Designer Illustration

Emergency Recovery Victoria, a state government agency, came to me with two immediate issues: a brand with little existing visual direction, and the need for the illustration style to be easily replicable by different designers for use across their collateral. Oh, and it had to look great too.

These constraints became key in solving the creative puzzle. I based all the characters on simplified geometric shapes - circles, rectangles, squares etc. This created a simple, but distinctly stylised illustration aesthetic. It was also easy to replicate. A colour palette was defined, and simple rules were created to guide designers how best to create future assets.

Words AND Pictures

It was essential that even those with little English could take meaning from the animation.

The simple illustration, with black lines around objects, purposeful compositions, and plain backgrounds guide the viewer to focus on the most important pieces of information.

I removed visual clutter, and simplified objects down to their core components.
